TagGap vs server-side tracking apps
Server-side tracking apps such as Elevar, Littledata, Stape, TAGGRS or Analyzify send your purchase data to GA4 and Meta. TagGap checks whether it arrived, order by order. They solve different problems, and most growing stores benefit from both.
| Aspect | Server-side tracking app | TagGap |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Send purchase and other events to GA4, Meta and ad platforms | Verify which Shopify orders those platforms actually recorded |
| Changes your tracking | Yes: it is your tracking | No: read-only |
| Output | More events, higher match quality | A list of missing, duplicated and mis-valued orders, with causes |
| Works with | Its own pipeline | Any setup: Shopify apps, GTM, custom pixels or a server-side app |
| When it helps most | Ad blockers, browser limits, Conversions API coverage | After a migration, a theme or app change, or when numbers stop adding up |
Why sending more events is not the same as knowing
Every tracking pipeline has failure points: a pixel that disconnects after a checkout change, a transaction_id mapped to the wrong field, a browser and server event that are not deduplicated, a redirect that strips the click id. Each of them fails quietly. The dashboards still show numbers, just wrong ones.
TagGap starts from the one source that cannot be wrong about what you sold, your Shopify orders, and checks each platform against it. If your server-side app is working, TagGap shows it. If it is not, TagGap shows which orders and why.
Questions
I already use a server-side tracking app. Do I need TagGap?
A server-side app improves what is sent. It cannot independently prove what arrived for each order, and a misconfigured pipeline fails quietly. TagGap is the independent check: it reads Shopify orders and what GA4 and Meta recorded, and names the gaps.
Will TagGap conflict with my tracking app?
No. TagGap does not install a pixel or send events, so it cannot double count or interfere with any pipeline.
Can TagGap tell me whether my server-side setup is worth it?
It shows the match rate, duplicates and value accuracy per destination over time, so you can see the effect of any change you make, including switching tracking providers.
