Which Shopify orders can GA4 and Meta never see?
Updated · TagGap
Quick answer: Browser and app pixels only fire when a shopper completes your online store checkout. Orders created anywhere else (POS, draft and manual orders, subscription renewals, many marketplace and B2B orders) will not appear in GA4 or Meta unless something sends them server-side. Exclude them before you judge your tracking.
Orders that skip the online checkout
| Order source | Seen by a checkout pixel? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Online store checkout | Yes | Should match. A gap here is a tracking problem |
| Point of Sale | No | Exclude, or send offline conversions if you need them |
| Draft and manually created orders | No | Exclude |
| Subscription renewals | No: created by the subscription app, not a shopper | Exclude, or send server-side if you report recurring revenue |
| Marketplace and sales-channel orders | Usually no | Check each channel; most report sales in their own dashboard |
| Test orders | Sometimes | Exclude; filter them out of reports |
How to check your own mix
Export a month of orders from Shopify and count them by Source. The share that is not online store checkout is the part of the gap you should expect. Anything above that among online store orders deserves a look.
How TagGap handles it
TagGap excludes test, cancelled, draft and B2B orders and subscription renewals from the comparison, and keeps each order’s sales channel and source, so a POS sale never shows up as broken tracking.
